Hi, I’m Alex

A lover of all things nature, and someone who has felt the weight of eco-anxiety firsthand. If you’ve ever found yourself lying awake at night, worrying about the state of the planet, or feeling overwhelmed by the constant stream of bad environmental news, I get it. I’ve been there too.

My Journey with Nature

I grew up in Scotland, surrounded by wild landscapes that sparked my love for nature from an early age. That passion led me to study Conservation Biology, followed by a Master’s in Ecology and Environmental Biology. I've been lucky enough to spend time in the Peruvian Amazon studying monkeys in the rainforest, on the plains of Africa surrounded by elephants and lions (but actually looking for little rodents!) and working for conservation charities like the RSPB. But being immersed in conservation in my professional and personal life put the environmental crisis front and centre. As the state of the planet got worse and worse, I felt my eco-anxiety rise, and a huge emotional weight of caring so much.

I wanted to help nature, but I was struggling to take care of myself.

I later worked for mental health charities, which is where I discovered mindfulness. It helped me deal with my thoughts and stress levels in my life in general, and I soon realised that it could help with my feelings of eco-anxiety too. It allowed me to reconnect with why I cared so much in the first place and to deal with these feelings in a healthy way.

I always felt better when I spent time in nature, and I came to understand how our emotional well-being and connection to nature are so deeply intertwined.

Why I Created Be Natureful

Now, I want to help others navigate their own eco-anxiety through Be Natureful, where I share mindfulness in nature techniques. This is a space where we can enjoy and reconnect with nature, and take action to protect it, without feeling consumed by fear or guilt or any other difficult emotion associated with the environmental crisis.

When I’m not working, you’ll most likely find me:

  • Engrossed in a book – usually something about nature or conservation you can find my reviews on Instagram here
  • Walking in nature – because fresh air and birdsong are the best kind of therapy
  • Traveling with my wife – she’s from Mexico, and we love exploring new landscapes and cultures together

Join Me!

I truly believe that loving nature should bring us joy, not anxiety, and that’s exactly what I want to help you rediscover.

I hope you can join me on your journey to be natureful!
